They give us the two aspects of justification by faith, both of which are clear in the writings of Paul:ġ. Both James and Paul speak a great deal of faith and works. It is clear that James’ theme is not works, but faith-the same as Paul’s theme, but James emphasizes what faith produces. Therefore, even Paul’s first epistle was not written until after the Epistle of James, which was the first book of the New Testament to be written. However, the earliest of Paul’s epistles, 1 Thessalonians, was written about A.D. There have been those who have said that James wrote his epistle to combat the teachings of Paul they argue that James emphasizes works while Paul emphasizes faith. I believe it was this James whom Paul referred to in Galatians 2:9, “And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.” This James is the man whom we believe to be the author of this epistle. ![]() At least he made the summation and brought the council to a decision under the leading of the Holy Spirit. ![]() In Acts 15 James seems to have presided over that great council in Jerusalem. He was a son of Mary and of Joseph, which made him a half brother of the Lord Jesus. I automatically dismiss him as the author of this epistle.ģ. He is mentioned in the list of apostles, but very little is known concerning him. James, the son of Alphaeus, called “James the less” (see Mark 15:40). There is no question that James wrote the Epistle of James, but which James was the author? Some find at least four men by the name of James in the New Testament. The problem of authorship is a major one. They are designated as general or “catholic” epistles in the sense that they are universal, not being addressed to any particular individual or church, but to the church as a whole. The Epistle of James is the first in a group of epistles customarily called General Epistles, which includes James, 1 and 2 Peter, 1, 2, and 3 John, and Jude. It's still difficult if you're not used to right analog control, but it is more manageable than the dunk contest. The objective is to sink as many three-point shots as possible from various spots on the court using the right analog stick. The 3 Point Shootout, also part of the All-Star Game festivities, appears here as well. It will give you fancy dunks to dish out, but the high difficulty level of stick manipulation means you'll spend plenty of time in Dunk School (also located in the NBA Blacktop section) to practice the art. Instead of using the standard face buttons to dunk, however, you have to manipulate the right analog stick in various ways to get the job done. Your selected player has to try and outperform every other competitor by trying to do the fanciest and most spectacular dunk possible. The Sprite Dunk Contest is just like the one you see every year at the All-Star Game. NBA Blacktop is where all of the mini-games are located, and they are split up into five sub-categories, all taking place at the famous Rucker Park. While this will initially put people off, keep in mind that flicking the right analog stick in just about any menu will bring up the main menu for the game, which ends up being a very convenient way to get anywhere you want instead of just backing in and out of menus and quitting games to do so. Doing so will give you a wealth of menu choices, including several for the various game modes. While veterans will immediately recognize what to do here, newcomers to the series won't realize right away that flicking the right analog stick finally brings up the menu. When you first start NBA 2K9, you'll initially be presented with the chance to quickly enter a game instead of a menu. It is by no means a perfect game, but it is by far the best basketball game on the market today. NBA 2K9 from Visual Concepts and 2K Games shows everyone that the series still has a lot of life left in it. ![]() Fans and critics alike started to wonder if the series was beginning to run out of steam. NBA 2K7 was considered by many to be the pinnacle of the series, but with average graphics, average AI and no known improvements to be seen, NBA 2K8 was considered by those same people to be a step backward. The jump to the Xbox 360 and PS3 helped create better graphics while the main game went through more tweaks. With the move to the PS2 and Xbox, the series began refining the controls and looking outside of the main game for improvements, adding in and refining franchise modes as well as trying to create a presentation more akin to a real NBA broadcast. Everything from graphics to movement to gameplay and sound were responsible for showing off the power of Sega's final console. Starting with the franchise debut on the Sega Dreamcast, the NBA 2K series has shown gamers how video game basketball can be done and be done well. However, the troubles with NBA 2K9 are minor when you consider the robust level of controls and gameplay options available. In a genre dominated by Electronic Arts, it is both refreshing and surprising to see another game series take the crown for best basketball simulation game. The problem is you must be very precise to pull off moves even as simple as a crossover. When you press the left trigger, you can execute your dribble moves. Player movement and ballhandling are both mapped to the analog stick. Beyond on-the-court gameplay, the directional pad is mapped to four different areas, including quick substitutions and playcalling. As for the controls, they might be complicated for younger players. Overall, games are perfectly balanced between half-court sets and the fast break. Online, options have been expanded to include 5-on-5 multiplayer and a ranking system to measure your skills. The swishes and clanks from the rim sound crisp. As you progress through games, you'll notice beads of sweat form on their foreheads as they get tired. Visually, the series has made major strides.
![]() ![]() Or have ever seen a picture of a dog on the internet. We’re not bawling you’re bawling.Īgainst all odds, this translates into a warm, wonderful family-friendly entertainment, particularly for those who live with a dog. This means that the viewer can guiltlessly enjoy watching their plucky canine narrator die. Happily, a subsequent independent investigative report found that the video was edited to mischaracterise what happened to the dog, and, to use a much-read credit, that ‘No Animals Were Harmed in the Making of this Film.’ Later incarnations include a happy, pizza-loving Corgi, a dutiful German Shepherd K-9 officer, and a neglected yard dog on a chain.Ī Dog’s Purpose made headlines for all the wrong reasons back in January, when, footage purporting to show on-set animal abuse was leaked to the website TMZ. Together, the pair enjoy mischievous scrapes and weather occasional misfortunes until Ethan leaves for college. He has more luck as a red retriever, named Bailey, who grows up alongside Ethan (Bryce Gheisar, and later KJ Apa), his boy: “I’m definitely keeping this boy,” Bailey announces excitedly. As a beagle, born during the 1960s, the animal has not yet made it out of puppyhood when the dog catcher comes to call. Its narrative structure, which jumps from one unrelated dog owner to the next, is lumpy. These lives are shaped and determined by human companions and the kindness (and unkindness) of strangers. A Dog’s Purpose is not a good movie. Its characters, both human and canine, are two-dimensional. It’s a shaggy beast of a conceit: a dog, voiced by loveable Josh Gad, ponders the nature of his (or sometimes her) existence through successive reincarnations. Following on from My Life as A Dog (1985) and Hachi: A Dog’s Tale (2009), A Dog’s Purpose delivers animal ethics in a bouncy, wet-nosed, waggly-tailed package. But the same filmmaker can always be relied on with canine-themed material. Lasse Hallström has directed quite a few dull-as-ditchwater literary adaptations ( The Cider House Rules, The Shipping News) and more than one deadening dud ( Chocolat, Salmon Fishing in Yemen). ![]() ![]() Follow the instructions when the macOS installer opens.
